DHARAMSHALA: A Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus met with an accident on Tuesday (August 19, 2025) near the Bahalgarh flyover on National Highway-44 in Sonepat district of Haryana. The incident occurred around 5 am and left 12 persons people injured, all of whom have been admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The bus, which was en route from Palampur to Delhi, belonged to the Jaisinghpur depot in Kangra district. According to eyewitnesses and passengers, most of the travellers were asleep when the accident took place.

Sunil, a young passenger from Jaisinghpur, shared that the accident happened when a tipper truck ahead of the bus suddenly slammed brakes, leading to a rear-end collision. “The truck driver fled the scene after the accident,” Sunil said. He said that while some passengers sustained minor injuries, many chose to continue on their journey after the initial chaos settled.

The bus conductor confirmed that the accident was caused by the truck driver’s abrupt braking. “It was completely the fault of the truck driver. He stopped without warning and then disappeared from the site,” the conductor said. He sustained minor injuries while the bus driver suffered injuries to his head and knee.

A female passenger reported that her young child received injuries to the back and head due to the impact. The local police are currently investigating the incident and efforts are underway to trace the absconding truck driver. The accident once again raises questions about road safety and the need for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations on busy highways like NH-44.
