Youth eruption in Mandi & Kangra: Job trainee policy sparks statewide unrest

Mandi-Kangra — Himachal Pradesh is witnessing a wave of youth-led protests as outrage mounts over the state’s controversial Job Trainee Policy. Demonstrations in Mandi and Kangra districts have shaken public confidence in the government, with the Himachal Unemployed Youth Federation (HUYF) calling the policy a “symbol of administrative failure and insensitivity.”

Shrey Awasthi, State Coordinator of HUYF, issued a stern warning:

“If the Job Trainee Policy is not rolled back immediately, we will launch a massive state-level protest in Shimla during the monsoon session. This is not just a protest—it will be a statewide youth uprising.”

The Federation claims the policy has left young citizens feeling “mentally shattered and deeply betrayed,” citing repeated policy reversals and exploitative schemes.

“Instead of creating dignified employment, the administration seems determined to institutionalize exploitation under the garb of training,” Awasthi added.

The protests, marked by placards, slogans, and fiery speeches, reflect growing frustration among educated youth who feel pushed into unstable, contractor-style roles with no job security or benefits.
District Convenor Vishal Mandotra criticized the policy for forcing selected candidates into two years of temporary training followed by another examination, calling it “mental harassment”.

As demonstrations spread across districts, pressure is mounting on the state government to respond decisively or risk a political backlash. The Federation has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister demanding immediate rollback and regular recruitment for long-vacant posts.

The message from Himachal’s youth is clear: dignity, not tokenism. If the government doesn’t listen, the streets will speak.
