Dharamshala: In a heartfelt address that touched every parent in the room, Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri shared a personal moment that underscored the emotional sacrifices leaders often make in the service of the public.
“I couldn’t attend my own daughter’s award ceremony because of commitments to public welfare,” Agnihotri said, addressing a gathering of over 1,300 people at the Shining Star Awards, organized by The Newz Radar media group here on Monday.
“She didn’t speak to me for days. But you are fortunate—you are here, celebrating the achievements of your children. Cherish this moment.”
The audience, which included meritorious students who had scored above 90% in their Class 10 and 12 board exams, their proud parents, top administrative officials, and educationists, fell into a reflective silence as Agnihotri spoke with rare emotional candor.
Beyond his personal anecdotes, the Deputy CM used the platform to inspire the next generation. He called politics a noble profession and urged students to consider public service as a meaningful career path. “Politics is not just about power—it’s about service. It’s a platform where real change begins,” he said.
Agnihotri also directed senior officials in the Jal Shakti Department to ensure that no school faces water scarcity during the harsh summer months, and instructed the Transport Department to expedite driving licenses for these meritorious students so they don’t lose time over basic bureaucratic delays.
But it was the emotional connect that made his presence unforgettable. Students waited until the event concluded just to get his autograph on their merit certificates. Despite repeated announcements urging the Chief Guest to proceed for another commitment in Shimla, the Deputy CM stayed back, surrounded by students.
In a rare and touching gesture, Agnihotri even knelt on the ground amidst the young achievers for a group photograph—reflecting humility and a deep sense of connection. As parents and students urged him to stay, he nearly skipped lunch, but at the insistence of his admirers, he had a quick meal before departing.
Traveling all the way from Una to Dharamshala and then to Shimla within hours, the Deputy CM’s presence added gravitas, warmth, and inspiration to an event that will long remain in the memories of those who attended.
