Shimla: The prolonged strike by the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) Drivers’ Union concluded late Tuesday evening following a decisive meeting with Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri at his residence. The breakthrough came after union representatives presented their long-standing demands, prompting swift government action that restored trust among employees.
Major Outcomes of the Meeting:
- Designation of Senior Drivers: 205 senior-most HRTC drivers will be recognized as “Designated Senior Drivers,” though without financial benefits.
- Medical Reimbursements: Claims pending for the past six months will be released shortly.
- Uniforms & Allowances: Staff will receive two uniform sets; one installment of night overtime allowance will be paid with July salaries, and the second with August.
- Support for Pensioners: The government approved a ₹150 crore loan to HRTC, backed by a state guarantee. Interest will be borne by the Himachal Government, pending cabinet approval.
Deputy CM Agnihotri reaffirmed the government’s commitment to employee welfare, stating that timely resolution of staff and pensioner concerns remains a priority. The meeting was attended by HRTC Managing Director Dr. Nipun Jindal, union president Man Singh Thakur, and other officials.
