Shashi Kala Negi from Dunni village in Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh has brought pride to India by clinching a silver medal in boxing at the prestigious World Police and Fire Games held in Birmingham, US.
Competing in the 75kg category, Shashi Kala represented India through the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and showcased her exceptional boxing talent on the global stage.
The international sporting event took place from June 27 to July 6, attracting top law enforcement athletes from around the world. Upon her return to her hometown, Shashi Kala was greeted with a warm and celebratory welcome by local residents, panchayat members and community leaders.

Currently serving in the SSB under CAPF-Delhi, Shashi Kala has consistently balanced her role as a paramilitary personnel with her passion for boxing. Over the years, she has become a formidable name in the sport. She is a five-time gold medalist in sub-junior and junior national championships, represented India in World Championships in Bulgaria and Serbia, competed in the AIBA Women’s Junior and Youth World Boxing Championship (2013), won gold at the Golden Gloves Tournament (2014) and silver at the First Elite Women’s National Boxing Championship (2016).
In recognition of her consistent excellence, Shashi Kala was honoured with the prestigious SSB Golden DG Disc on July 14 by the SSB Director General.
Voice for youth and sports
Speaking to the media after her return, Shashi Kala expressed deep concern about rising drug abuse among youth, especially in rural regions.
“Sports not only builds a strong body but also a strong mind. I urge young people to take up sports as it keeps you disciplined, focused and away from harmful addictions,” she said.
“Our youth are the future. We must guide them toward a path of fitness and national pride, not self-destruction.”
