Shimla:
In a major decision aimed at revitalising its tourism infrastructure, the Himachal Pradesh government has approved the outsourcing of 14 hotels under the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC) on an “operation and maintenance” (O&M) basis. These units, which have been incurring financial losses, will now be managed by private entities to enhance efficiency, reduce operational burden and improve services for tourists.

The move follows a recent cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, where the proposal was initially cleared. It was later formalised during the Board of Directors meeting of the HPTDC. The government believes this step will not only stabilise the corporation’s financial health but also offer improved facilities to visitors.

According to officials, the Principal Secretary of Tourism has issued formal instructions to the Managing Director of the HPTDC to initiate the outsourcing process. The MD has been directed to implement the decision within three months.

The hotels identified for this transition include Hotel Hill Top, Swarghat; Hotel Lake View, Bilaspur; Hotel Bhagal, Darlaghat; Wayside Amenity, Bhararighat; Hotel Mamleshwar, Chindi; Hotel Apple Blossom, Fagu; Hotel Shivalik, Parwanoo; Hotel Giriganga, Khadapathar; Hotel Chanshal, Rohru; Tourist Inn, Rajgarh; Hotel Sarvari, Kullu; Hotel Old Ros Common, Kasauli; Kashmir House, Dharamshala; and Hotel Uhl, Jogindernagar.

“By outsourcing these facilities, the state hopes to ensure better upkeep and modern hospitality services. The government believes the initiative will boost tourist satisfaction and help elevate Himachal’s profile as a premier travel destination,” said a government official.
