Shimla: The monsoon has made a devastating entry into Himachal Pradesh, triggering widespread destruction across the state. Continuous rainfall over the past 15 hours has led to multiple landslides and flashfloods, severely impacting normal life.

In state capital Shimla, several areas have reported landslides, resulting in blocked roads and damaged vehicles. Trees and debris have fallen on parked cars in areas like Bharari and Panthaghati, rendering roads impassable.

The road leading to Chamyana hospital has also been blocked due to a landslide, affecting access to healthcare services. Meanwhile, the city’s water supply has been disrupted as excessive silt and rainwater have entered the main water sources. The Shimla Jal Nigam has warned that water supply may remain affected for the next few days and has urged residents to boil water and use it judiciously.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for heavy rainfall in Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Kangra, Solan and Sirmaur districts for Sunday (June 29, 2025). A similar alert is in place for Solan, Shimla, Sirmaur and Bilaspur on Monday. From July 1 to 4, a yellow alert has been issued across the state, signaling continued rainfall activity. There are also warnings of possible flooding in parts of Solan, Kangra, Mandi and Sirmaur districts.

The incessant rain has triggered cloudburst incidents in several districts, including Kullu, Mandi and Kangra. These sudden downpours have caused significant damage and disruption, with reports of washed-out roads, flooded homes, and collapsed structures.

As per official data, the ongoing monsoon-related disasters have so far claimed 34 lives, left 74 injured and resulted in estimated property losses of over Rs 300 crore.

The authorities are on high alert and emergency services are working round-the-clock to manage the situation. People have been advised to stay indoors, avoid travel to hilly areas and remain updated with official weather advisories.
