Palampur: The Himachal Pradesh Police have busted a cheating racket linked to the Police Constable Recruitment Examination conducted by the Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission on June 15. Two persons have been arrested for allegedly trying to extort money from aspirants on the pretext of helping them clear the exam.

Acting on a tip-off, a joint team comprising officers from the security branch and Palampur police detained several suspicious individuals near an examination centre in Palampur. During initial interrogation, it was revealed that the accused, Vikram and Balvinder, alias Sonu Jaryal, both residents of Jawali in Kangra district, were allegedly orchestrating a scam by falsely promising candidates success in the recruitment exam in return for money.

The duo reportedly used other youths as intermediaries to reach out to aspirants, manipulating them with fake assurances and deceitful tactics. Several candidates present at the examination centre were also questioned, helping police gather critical evidence.

A case (FIR No. 104/25 dated June 16, 2025) has been registered at the Palampur police station under Sections 318(4) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Both accused are currently in custody and interrogation is ongoing. So far, seven persons have been questioned in connection with the case.
Sources confirmed that both Vikram and Balvinder had a tainted history. Their names had previously emerged during investigations into the 2022 police recruitment paper leak and a 2019 case involving illegal bluetooth devices used for cheating.

The Himachal Pradesh Police have reiterated their commitment to maintaining the sanctity and transparency of recruitment examinations. The authorities said strictest possible legal action would be taken against anyone found guilty of undermining the process.
