Dalhousie’s Gandhi Chowk police post was formally relocated to a newly constructed building on Friday. The inauguration ceremony was led by former Education Minister Asha Kumari, marking a significant step toward improved civic infrastructure.
The event was attended by SDM (Civil) Dalhousie Anil Bhardwaj, DSP Dalhousie Mayank Sharma, Municipal Council Executive Officer Rakhi Kaushal, Vice President Reena Singh Jaryal, Councillor Tilak Raj Kapoor ‘Jwala’, along with senior officials, local representatives, and prominent citizens.
Speaking to the press, Asha Kumari highlighted that the move was the first phase of a broader plan. She noted that the old building suffered from space constraints, while the new facility offers ample room and modern amenities, including proper washroom facilities for police personnel.
She also shared details of the Gandhi Chowk beautification plan:
- The old police post structure will be removed.
- Mahatma Gandhi’s statue will be respectfully restored to its original location.
- A modern high-mast lighting system will be installed at the center of the square for better illumination.
Officials emphasized that the new police post will not only provide a better working environment for officers but also ensure efficient and organized services for residents and tourists. The initiative is expected to improve traffic management and enhance the overall aesthetics of Gandhi Chowk.
During the ceremony, DSP Mayank Sharma honored Asha Kumari with a traditional cap, while EO Rakhi Kaushal presented her with a shawl as a gesture of respect.
