DHARAMSHALA: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has condemned the Himachal Pradesh government and the Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education over alleged administrative negligence, insensitivity and anti-student policies.
In a press briefing, ABVP’s Himachal Pradesh unit joint secretary Abhinav Chaudhary criticised the recent handling of Class XII examination results and called for immediate corrective measures.
ABVP threatens statewide stir over result mismanagement
The ABVP has demanded action within 24 hours against top officials of the Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education, including the Board Chairman and the Secretary.
The student body has warned of a statewide protest if its demands are not met. The organisation particularly highlighted a shocking incident where a female student attempted suicide on May 17 after being declared failed, only to be marked as passed on May 22, a delay the ABVP alleged was a direct result of the school board’s gross insensitivity.
Calls for judicial probe, fee rollback, transparent review
The ABVP issued a charter of demands focused on student welfare and institutional accountability:
- Judicial investigation into suicide attempt: ABVP has sought an independent judicial probe into the attempted suicide, citing it as a grave indicator of the mental trauma caused by the board’s carelessness.
- Strict action against board officials: The student organisation has called for administrative and legal action against officials responsible for result mismanagement, including those in the result processing department.
- Immediate rollback of hiked fees: The ABVP has demanded a complete reversal of recent fee hikes for rechecking and revaluation, which have doubled from Rs 400 to Rs 800 and Rs 500 to Rs 1,000, respectively. Students under the State Open School (SOS) scheme are being charged up to Rs 3000, which the ABVP called “economic oppression”.
- Independent review of exam results: The ABVP is pushing for a fair, transparent and independent reassessment of answer sheets for all affected students.
