In the ongoing investigation into the death of Vimal Negi, Chief Engineer at Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited, the probe panel led by Additional Chief Secretary Onkar Chand Sharma conducted a three-hour questioning session with officials and employees at the corporation’s office.
IAS officer Onkar Chand Sharma arrived at the power corporation office around 11.30 am, where he reviewed surveillance footage to analyse the arrival and departure of Vimal Negi and other employees.
The inquiry focused on gathering information from the staff, particularly concerning the allegations of mental harassment levelled by Vimal Negi’s wife against certain officials.
The panel questioned employees about their interactions and the behaviour of the accused officers. Onkar Chand Sharma is expected to submit his report to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu later this week.
In the aftermath of Vimal Negi’s death, the state government took swift action, removing IAS officer Harikesh Meena from the position of Managing Director and sending him on leave. Additionally, an FIR has been filed against suspended Director Deshraj at the local police station.
Family members of the deceased have accused the authorities of subjecting Vimal Negi to immense mental pressure, a claim supported by several employees. They stated that Negi was often forced to work late into the night and was subjected to undue stress.
