Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board has set February 15, 2025, as the final deadline for conducting e-KYC (know your customer) process for electricity meters.
Consumers who fail to complete the process by this date will lose the benefit of 125 units of free electricity per meter.
For the past two months, electricity board employees have been conducting door-to-door visits to complete e-KYC. However, consumers who missed the initial round can now visit their respective electricity board offices for verification. The department has deployed staff specifically for this task to ensure a smooth process.
Required documents for E-KYC
If a household has multiple meters, only one meter will be eligible for free electricity after completing e-KYC. Some consumers were left out during the initial campaign and employees are revisiting homes to assist them.
However, moving forward, consumers must visit the sub-division office for the process, as no other method will be accepted. To complete the e-KYC, consumers must provide Aadhaar card, ration card, any old electricity bill with the consumer ID and Aadhaar-linked mobile number (OTP verification required).
Subsidy withdrawn for Class I & II officers
Himachal Pradesh, where every household is connected to electricity, has over 23.55 lakh electricity meters. The e-KYC process is being carried out to ensure that financially weaker sections continue receiving 125 units of free electricity per meter.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and his Cabinet ministers have voluntarily given up their electricity subsidies. Additionally, electricity subsidies for Class I and II government officers have also been discontinued.
Starting February, these officials will receive electricity bills without any subsidy, helping ease the financial distress being faced by the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board.
