SHIMLA: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu launched a sharp attack on the opposition BJP, accusing it of being deeply divided and struggling with internal factionalism.
Chief Minister Sukhu claimed the party was currently split into five factions, making it incapable of functioning as a cohesive opposition.
Speaking at an event, CM Sukhu ridiculed the BJP’s internal turmoil, stating that leaders who switched from the Congress to the BJP were now overshadowing the original BJP leadership. He alleged that the party’s core leadership was being sidelined, leading to discontent within its ranks.
“The BJP is no longer a united front. The leaders who defected to their party are calling the shots, while the original BJP members are being pushed aside,” he remarked.
‘Contradictions’ in BJP’s stand on Assembly session
CM Sukhu also criticised the BJP’s inconsistent stance regarding the ongoing Assembly session. He pointed out that while BJP legislators had frequently staged walkouts, they were now demanding an extension of the session.
“First, they walk out of the Assembly at every opportunity, and now, they demand that the session be extended! What do they really want?” Sukhu questioned.
Reiterating his government’s stance, he said, “If the BJP is serious about discussions, we are ready to extend the Assembly session till 7 pm. But if their agenda is just to create disruption and then walk out, there is no point in continuing debates.”
Claims 9 ‘outsiders’ who joined BJP dominating party affairs
Taking another swipe at the BJP’s internal divide, CM Sukhu compared the party’s defectors and old leaders, saying:
“The nine leaders who recently joined BJP are like state-level players, while the remaining leaders in the party are just district-level champions.”
His remarks highlight the growing perception that the Congress turncoats who switched to BJP were now dominating the party, leaving the original BJP leaders sidelined.
Says govt ready for debate, questions BJP’s ‘intentions’
Clarifying his stance on the Assembly session extension, CM Sukhu said his government is open to a longer discussion — provided BJP members showed genuine intent to participate.
“We are ready to sit and debate any issue democratically. But if their only goal is to create chaos and then walk out, then what’s the point?” he asked.
