Dharamshala: Himachal Pradesh BJP state media co-in-charge advocate Vishav Chakshu has claimed that the public maintained a distance from the Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha at Tapovan in Dharamshala during the winter session this time, reflecting “waning trust in the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led Congress government”.
In a statement, Chakshu claimed this was an unprecedented development in Himachal Pradesh’s politics that the Kangra and Chamba people had “cold-shouldered the ruling regime during their inter session in Dharamshala”.
Accusing Chief Minister Sukhu of losing public faith in the public due to “false promises and poor governance”, he said, “The popularity of the Congress government has plummeted to such an extent that only security personnel and government employees were visible at Tapovan. There’s no sign of the public.”
Chakshu alleged that even journalists feared writing critical reports, worried about possible FIRs against them. He attributed the government’s “unpopularity to its false guarantees”, stating that people were now keen to hold it accountable. Comparing the current administration to the previous BJP government under Jai Ram Thakur, he highlighted that the former Chief Minister held late-night public meetings to resolve grievances, which increased public engagement.
In stark contrast, he alleged, the Sukhu government had alienated both employees and the public by taking adverse decisions in the Assembly. “The government’s actions have driven employee unions away, further tarnishing the Chief Minister’s image and dragging the administration’s credibility to an all-time low,” Chakshu said.
