MANDI:
Himachal Pradesh PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh has hit back at BJP Leader of the Opposition and former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur’s remarks accusing the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led Congress government of attempting to undermine the legacy of Holly Lodge, the historic residence of Vikramaditya’s family.
Countering Jai Ram’s jibe, Vikramaditya said, “Holly Lodge is blessed by Goddess Bhimakali and Lord Shri Ram. No one has been born yet who can dislodge it. The blessings of the people of Himachal are with us.”
The statement came after Jai Ram Thakur accused the state government of plotting to diminish the historical and political significance of Holly Lodge. Vikramaditya dismissed these allegations as baseless, urging Jai Ram to maintain the dignity befitting a leader of his stature.
“I respect Jai Ram Thakur as a senior leader and former Chief Minister, but such statements have no relevance in political discourse. Holly Lodge stands firm with divine blessings and public support,” said Vikramaditya.

BJP’s attempts to topple government have failed

Vikramaditya also accused the BJP of repeatedly trying to destabilise the Congress government. Despite these efforts, he asserted that the government continued to function robustly. Referring to a recent Supreme Court ruling favouring Congress MLAs, he said, “The BJP’s plans to topple the government have been thwarted and we stand strong with the people’s mandate.”
The minister emphasised the synergy between the Congress government and the party organisation in the state. He said, “There is complete coordination and mutual understanding between the government and the organization. Directions from the central leadership are promptly implemented. The organisation acts as a bridge between the people and the government, ensuring grassroots issues are addressed effectively.”

Congress leadership reviews state issues

Vikramaditya also hinted at an impending restructuring of the Congress organisation in the state, stating that suggestions are being sought from senior leaders and workers. The new executive body will be finalised by the high command, and the party will focus on including more youth and women in leadership roles.

In a parallel development, Congress’s national secretary and co-in-charge for Himachal Pradesh, Chetan Chauhan, along with Vidit Chaudhary, held extensive discussions over three days with various wings of the party, including Youth Congress and NSUI. The focus was on building a stronger organization that balances experience with youthful energy and women’s representation.
Observers have been directed to gather feedback from workers at the district and block levels. This feedback will form the basis for the Congress high command’s decisions on forming the new executive committee.
