Mandi: In an extraordinary display of dedication, Dr Dushyant Thakur of the Zonal Hospital at Mandi treated a patient right from his hospital bed, despite having just undergone surgery himself.
On Saturday, Dr Dushyant, a senior doctor at the hospital, underwent surgery on his leg. Shortly after his operation, as he lay recovering, he was approached by the family of a critically ill patient, 64-year-old Narayan Singh, who insisted on being treated only by Dr Dushyant.
Patient said no to other doctors
Narayan Singh, a resident of Dharmapur who is suffering from severe lung problems, had been receiving treatment at the Medical College in Nerchowk.

However, dissatisfied with the care he was receiving, he left the hospital against medical advice and headed to Mandi’s Zonal Hospital, determined to be treated by Dr Dushyant, who had been his doctor for several years.
His family informed Dr Dushyant of the situation, stating that Narayan’s condition had worsened and that he refused to be treated by anyone else.
Despite being weak after his surgery, Dr Dushyant couldn’t ignore the patient’s plea. From his hospital bed, Dr Dushyant assessed Narayan Singh and arranged for his immediate admission to the emergency ward for further treatment.
Speaking about the situation, Dr Dushyant said, “As a doctor, my first duty is to provide care to my patients, no matter the circumstances. I couldn’t refuse Narayan’s request.”
He added that Narayan had been battling lung issues for a long time and had always been under his care. Many members of Narayan’s family have also been treated by Dr Dushyant in the past, building a strong bond of trust between them.
Patient recovers under doctor’s care
Narayan’s condition has since improved and he expressed his deep appreciation for Dr Dushyant’s care. “I feel much better now,” said Narayan.
“I have complete faith in Dr Dushyant because he has treated many of my family members successfully in the past.”
Narayan’s son-in-law Sohan Singh also expressed gratitude, stating, “Doctors like Dr Dushyant are rare. Even though he’s a government doctor, you won’t find such dedication even in private hospitals.”
