Himachal weather: Heavy rain expected to continue for next 7 days, 118 roads closed

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh is expected to experience continuous rainfall over the next seven days, with heavy downpour forecasted in several parts of the state.
The Meteorological Centre at Shimla has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall in some areas on Wednesday (September 4, 2024). The weather in Shimla too is inclement.

Over the last 24 hours, significant rainfall has been recorded in various parts: Kasauli received 87 mm, Kandaghat 66 mm, Katoala 65.2 mm, Shimla 54.1 mm, Bilaspur 50.8 mm, Naina Devi 42.6 mm, Dhaula Kuan 39.5 mm, Jubberhatti 31.6 mm, Berthin 19 mm, Solan 15 mm, Manali 14 mm and Bharmour 10 mm.

Landslides at Chakki Mod on Kalka-Shimla NH

The Kalka-Shimla National Highway continues to face disruptions due to landslides and falling debris, especially at Chakki Mod and a few other locations. The threat of landslides at Chakki Mod remains high. Additionally, the Paonta Sahib-Shillai National Highway near Hevna was closed for 24 hours due to a landslide, while the Shimla-Kinnaur National Highway near Nigulsari was shut for 23 hours.

2 national highways among roads shut

According to the State Emergency Operations Centre, as of 10 am on Wednesday, landslides have caused the closure of 118 roads across the state, including two national highways. Three bridges have also been damaged. Furthermore, 228 power transformers and 11 water supply schemes have been affected, with Shimla, Mandi, Sirmaur and Kangra districts being the most impacted in terms of power, water and road services.

Minimum temperatures across the state

The minimum temperatures recorded on Wednesday were as follows: Shimla 15.6°C, Sundernagar 20.5°C, Bhuntar 19.9°C, Kalpa 13.4°C, Dharamshala 18°C, Una 20.6°C, Nahan 23.7°C, Keylong 10.6°C, Palampur 18.5°C, Solan 19.5°C, Manali 16.2°C, Kangra 21.4°C, Mandi 21.3°C, Bilaspur 22.8°C, Chamba 22.1°C, Dalhousie 13°C, Kasauli 16.5°C, Paonta Sahib 24.0°C, Sarahan 17.5°C and Tabo 14.8°C.

Landslide threats on Circular Road

In the capital city of Shimla, heavy rainfall has heightened the risk of landslides along Circular Road. Continuous landslides have been reported near the Himachal Pradesh High Court, just beyond the Lift, disrupting traffic regularly. Additional landslides have been observed near Tolland, the Forest Department headquarters and close to the Himfed petrol pump near Navbahar.
