Two arrested with 2.43 kg of charas, contraband was hidden in car

MANDI: The district police have arrested two drug peddlers after seizing 2.43 kg of charas from their possession.

The arrest took place near Chandruhi on the Mandi-Hamirpur district border following a coordinated operation by the Sarkaghat police station team.

Acting on a tip-off, the police, led by ASI Rajendra Kumar, set up a checkpoint near Chandruhi late last night. Around 2 am, they stopped an Alto car for inspection.

Upon searching the vehicle, the police found 2.43 kg of charas hidden inside. The two occupants of the car, identified as Sanjeev Kumar, alias Praveen, of Sarkaghat and Ashish Sharma, alias Ashu, of Hamirpur, were arrested.

A case has been registered against the accused under the NDPS Act and a further investigation is underway. Mandi Superintendent of Police Sakshi Verma confirmed the arrest and seizure. She stated that the origin of the substantial consignment of charas and its intended destination are currently under investigation. The accused will be presented in court where police will seek their remand for further questioning and investigation.
