In a significant disruption for commuters, the Chandigarh-Manali highway has been blocked between Mandi and Pandoh, near 9 Miles area in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh, following a major landslide in the early hours of Thursday (August 8, 2024).
Triggered by heavy rains, the landslide has caused a complete standstill in traffic movement, stranding numerous vehicles in the region. Mandi Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sagar Chander stated that efforts were currently underway to restore traffic.
The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has mobilised its workforce and machinery to clear the debris. Restoration work is progressing, and authorities are hopeful that the highway will be operational within hours.
In the interim, light vehicles have been diverted to alternative routes between Mandi and Kullu. However, travellers have been advised to avoid this route until the road is fully restored.
