Himachal weather: 226 roads closed due to snow, maximum 123 in Shimla district

The snowfall in the higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh has caused widespread disruption to road connectivity across the state.
According to the State Emergency Operations Centre, traffic has been blocked on 226 roads, including three national highways, causing significant inconvenience to residents and tourists alike.
The snow-covered roads have led to route diversions, leaving visitors to the state grappling with travel challenges. While snowfall has drawn an influx of tourists to destinations like Shimla, Kufri and Manali, navigating the region has become increasingly difficult.
According to district-wise data, the situation is dire in Shimla, with 123 roads closed, including one national highway. Lahaul-Spiti faces disruptions on 36 roads, while Kullu district has 25 roads and two national highways blocked.
Kinnaur has seven roads closed, while Mandi has 16 roads disrupted. Other affected areas include Chamba’s Pangi with one road closed, Kangra’s Bhawarna subdivision with four blocked routes, and Shahpur with two.
Sirmaur and Una districts are also facing challenges with nine and three roads blocked, respectively.
Additionally, the snowfall has affected 21 drinking water supply projects, compounding the difficulties faced by residents in these regions.
Despite the challenges, the snowfall has brought a magical winter charm to the state, attracting tourists in droves. The authorities are working tirelessly to clear roads and restore connectivity, but travellers are advised to stay updated on road conditions and plan their journeys cautiously.
