Himachal weather update: Snowfall in Lahaul-Spiti, Kullu; cold wave grips state

The weather in Himachal Pradesh took a dramatic turn on Saturday (January 11, 2025), with snowfall and overcast skies creating a wintry ambience across the state.
Lahaul-Spiti and Kullu districts witnessed fresh snowfall, bringing a sharp dip in temperatures and enveloping the region in freezing conditions.
Light snowfall was reported in Rohtang Pass, Koksar and near the North Portal of the Atal Tunnel. In Kullu and Shimla, overcast skies prevailed, adding to the chill. Tourists visiting the picturesque towns of Kullu and Manali enjoyed the snowy weather, with many travelling to Lahaul through the Atal Tunnel to experience the mesmerising snow-clad landscapes.

Rain and snowfall forecast

The Meteorological Centre in Shimla has predicted light to moderate rain and snowfall in some parts of the state on January 11 and 12. Mid and high-altitude regions are expected to witness precipitation, while the lower hills and plains may receive light to moderate rainfall.
From January 13 to 15, clear weather is likely to prevail across the state. However, another spell of rain and snowfall is anticipated on January 16 and 17, primarily in the mid and high-altitude areas.

Cold wave and fog alert

The plains and lower hill regions are on alert for dense fog and cold wave conditions over the next 48 hours. Maximum temperatures are expected to drop by 3-4°C, with a gradual increase of 2-4°C over the following three days.
Similarly, minimum temperatures may see a dip of 3-4°C initially, followed by a slight drop of 2-3°C in several areas. Residents of Una, Hamirpur and Bilaspur reported chilly mornings, with dense fog and a biting cold wave keeping people indoors.
