To curb drug trafficking, the Sirmaur district police of Himachal Pradesh, which borders Uttarakhand, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, have taken substantial actions under the NDPS Act (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act).
Over the past year, the police have seized assets worth Rs 1,09,93,485, including Rs 39,32,950 in cash and properties valued at Rs 70,60,485.85. This drive includes the confiscation of movable and immovable assets, such as Rs 95 lakh seized from five family members involved in drug trafficking in Nahan, including a father-son duo and the grandson.
Over Rs 14 lakh cash seized in multiple drug-related cases
As per the police records, Rs 14,92,950 in cash has been seized from several suspects across seven major drug cases. In Majra police station, Rs 10,86,900 was confiscated from accused Deen Mohammad in a smack-related case. Additional seizures include Rs 35,270 with 110.5 grams of heroin from Sadar police station, Nahan and Rs 80,430 along with 20.02 grams of heroin from Paonta Sahib.
Furthermore, three suspects from Nahan were found with 24 grams of heroin and Rs 52,080 in cash, while Rs 31,770 and 10.07 grams of heroin were seized from suspects in another case.
Cash handed over to Income Tax Department
In a significant recent case on August 4, 2024, Paonta Sahib police station seized Rs 59,10,100 in cash from Sanjay, who had hidden the money in a concealed cabinet. This sum, suspected to be linked to drug trafficking, has been handed over to the Income Tax Department for further investigation.
