MANDI: In a trailblazing moment for Indian martial arts, Muskan from Himachal Pradesh has achieved an unprecedented second position in the recently released Global Top 10 Rankings by the International Savate Federation (FISav).
This remarkable achievement marks the first time in the 100-year history of the sport that an Indian athlete has broken into the top international ranks, a proud and inspiring moment for the entire nation.
Savate, popularly known as French boxing, is a dynamic and elegant combat sport that blends western boxing techniques with powerful and strategic kicking. It originated in France in the 18th century and has since evolved into a respected global discipline. The sport is governed internationally by FISav, which manages world championships and develops the sport across countries.
Muskan’s ascent on the global stage is not a solitary success. Joining her in this historic feat are Sucheta Sharma, ranked 4th; Roma, placed 9th; and Rajat Kumar, securing the 10th position. Their collective performance underlines India’s growing presence in international combat sports and showcases the untapped talent emerging from the country’s heartlands.
Adding to the significance, the Top 10 ranked athletes are now in strong contention for direct qualification to the upcoming World Combat Games, a prestigious multi-discipline event organised under the umbrella of the International Olympic Committee. This opportunity could see Indian athletes competing at one of the highest levels in the global sports arena.
The credit for this achievement also goes to the Savate Association of Himachal Pradesh, under the leadership of general secretary Santoshi Sharma, whose consistent efforts to promote and support Savate in the region have laid the foundation for such world-class performances. Their dedication to athlete development and grassroots training has transformed Himachal Pradesh into a rising hub for this unique sport.
