All India Congress Committee general secretary Rajeev Shukla, who is the party’s incharge for Himachal Pradesh affairs, sparked a controversy by comparing Prime Minister Narendra Modi to demon Ravana at Bilaspur’s Luhnu Ground where the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led Himachal Pradesh government on Wednesday (December 11, 2024) celebrated its two-year anniversary.
Addressing a rally, Shukla accused PM Modi of prioritising political dominance over the welfare of the country and alleged that his leadership had brought about a culture of lies and manipulation in Indian politics.

Calls Modi a power-hungry leader

Shukla alleged that Modi and the BJP were solely focused on capturing power at all costs, drawing a parallel to Ravana, who sought to control everything in his domain. He remarked, “Like Ravana, Modi craves for power and will go to any extent to get it.”
According to Shukla, the BJP allegedly uses every tool at its disposal — government agencies, money and muscle power — to suppress opposition and gain control of states across the country.
Shukla criticised the Prime Minister’s governance, claiming that Modi government allegedly prioritises propaganda over actual work. He alleged that instead of addressing the needs of the people, the BJP focuses on creating an illusion of progress through advertisements and speeches.

Says met PM for rain disaster relief, but to no avail

Citing his own experience, Shukla said that during the Himachal rain disaster, he personally met PM Modi to seek financial assistance for relief work, but the central government refused to help. He attributed this denial to Modi’s alleged bias against states or leaders who criticise him. “Their intentions are corrupt and their actions are driven by vendetta, not governance,” he said.
Shukla urged the public to see through what he described as the “illusion” created by the Modi government and vote them out of power. “The people will realise the truth and remove Modi, the Ravana of today, from his throne. It is time to bring back principled leadership under the Congress,” he said.
