BJP supporters erupted in celebration outside the party’s Delhi headquarters as the latest counting trends indicated the party’s return to power in the national capital after more than 26 years.
With a decisive mandate showing the saffron party leading in 42 of Delhi’s 70 Assembly seats, the atmosphere was electric as jubilant crowds danced to the beats of traditional ‘dhol’ and waved BJP flags.

Supporters start celebrations at BJP headquarters

Holding up large cutouts of the lotus, BJP’s election symbol, supporters smeared each other with saffron-colored powder, creating a festive atmosphere.
The mood reflected both the excitement and the significance of the party’s anticipated victory.
In a statement, BJP’s Delhi president Virendra Sachdeva expressed confidence that the party would form the next government in Delhi, adding that the central leadership would decide on the Chief Minister’s candidate.
“The results so far are in line with our expectations, but we will wait for the final outcome,” Sachdeva said, after offering prayers at the Hanuman temple in Connaught Place.

Several top Aam Aadmi Party leaders trailing

Ramesh Bidhuri, the BJP candidate from Kalkaji, who was leading over AAP candidate and Chief Minister Atishi, also expressed optimism, reaffirming the party’s expected win in the capital.
Meanwhile, early trends have shown a significant challenge for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), with several top leaders trailing in their respective constituencies.
Chief Minister Atishi is trailing BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri in Kalkaji, while Manish Sisodia is behind in Jangpura.
AAP’s national convener Arvind Kejriwal is leading from the New Delhi constituency, though he initially trailed BJP’s Parvesh Verma.
Some AAP leaders are still holding leads, with Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj leading in Greater Kailash, Cabinet colleague Gopal Rai ahead in Babarpur and Durgesh Pathak leading in Rajinder Nagar.
Former AAP minister Satyendar Jain is currently trailing by a margin of 11,487 votes in Shakur Basti constituency. His contest against BJP’s Karnail Singh has drawn attention, with Karnail Singh, the wealthiest candidate in the race, leading significantly.
