CHANDIGARH:
In a horrifying turn of events, seven members of a family from Dehradun were found dead inside a parked car in Panchkula’s upscale Sector 27 during the early hours of May 27.
The vehicle, locked from the inside, was discovered outside a residence, raising immediate alarm. Locals alerted the police after noticing the suspiciously stationary car, leading to a grim scene where all seven individuals, ranging from elderly grandparents to young children, were found lifeless.
Suicide suspected, but questions remain
Preliminary investigations suggest the family may have consumed poison in an alleged mass suicide. A handwritten note, believed to be penned by one of the deceased, was recovered from the car, though authorities have not disclosed its contents.
Police sources indicate that financial distress could be a key motive, but no official confirmation has been made.
Senior officials, including Panchkula DCP Himadri Kaushik and DCP Amit Dahiya, rushed to the scene, along with forensic teams. “The car was locked from the inside and there were no signs of forced entry or struggle,” said DCP Kaushik. “While suicide appears likely, we are examining all possibilities, including foul play.”
Bodies shifted to Civil Hospital for post-mortem
The bodies have been shifted to Sector 6 Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination, which will determine the exact cause of death. Forensic experts are meticulously analysing the vehicle for fingerprints, residue and other evidence. Neighbours and relatives are being questioned to piece together the family’s final days.
