CHAMBA: Following the recent encounter between security forces and terrorists in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir, the authorities in neighbouring Chamba in Himachal Pradesh have heightened security measures at the district’s entry points.
Fearing the infiltration of terrorists into the region, police teams have been put on high alert while armed paramilitary forces deployed to safeguard the area.
Armed police Quick Reaction Team deployed too
In addition to the regular police presence, the Quick Reaction Team (QRT) of Chamba police has now been equipped with weapons and stationed in critical locations to ensure that no suspicious individuals manage to cross into the district.
The move comes as part of proactive measures to prevent any potential threats following the violent incidents in Kathua, which involved a series of terrorist activities.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Yograj Chandel visited the police check-post at Tunuhatti, an important gateway into Chamba district. He inspected the security arrangements and issued instructions to ensure that the police and paramilitary forces remained vigilant at all times.
Vehicles entering district being thoroughly checked
The DSP also interacted with the stationed personnel and ensured they were well-prepared to handle any security challenges.
For nearly two hours, DSP Chandel took charge at the checkpoint, personally overseeing the questioning of drivers from out-of-state vehicles and checking their documents, as well as verifying the identification of passengers.
This is in line with heightened scrutiny of vehicles coming into the region, with extra caution being exercised since the terrorist activities in various parts of Kathua on Sunday.
In addition to strengthening security, the authorities are also working to maintain smooth traffic management, ensuring that any unusual movements or suspicious activities are promptly reported and investigated.
