MANDI: Aashray Sharma, son of BJP MLA from Mandi Anil Sharma and grandson of Pandit Sukh Ram who is also a former Congress candidate from the Mandi parliamentary constituency, asserted that only a Mandi resident should be elected as an MP from the constituency.

In a statement, Aashray stressed the importance of choosing a leader well-versed in Mandi’s issues to advocate for its interests. He criticised past leaders, calling them “outsiders” while alleging that they only “engaged in political tourism” without implementing any new plans. The statement was seen as a dig against current MP and Himachal Congress president Pratibha Singh, the wife of late six-term Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh who belongs to Rampur in Shimla district.

He said that during his recent visit to Kullu district, he met people from hotel industry who expressed concern about the deteriorating condition of the national highway, which had affected tourism in Kullu. He pledged to meet central ministers to expedite its reconstruction soon.
Taking a jibe at former parliamentarians who, according to him, raked up issues only during elections and forget later, he urged that those ready to enter the election fray should discuss specific plans for infrastructure, construction programs, post-elections with the public for the development of the Mandi constituency.

Highlighting his ongoing connection with the people, having received votes from 2.5 lakh individuals in the previous election, he reaffirmed his commitment to Mandi’s development and tribal areas, aiming to transform the constituency into a model region as per his late grandfather Pandit Sukh Ram’s vision. Aashray affirmed his dedication to championing Mandi’s interests.
