State Congress government led by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has come under sharp criticism for allegedly delaying the upcoming Panchayat and municipal elections. Pradesh Media Co-Incharge Advocate Vishva Chakshu launched a scathing attack, claiming that despite full readiness from the Election Commission and administrative departments, the government is deliberately stalling the democratic process.

  • Election Commission Prepared: Chakshu emphasized that the Election Commission has completed all necessary preparations. Ministers and officials have already given clearance to begin the process, and no technical hurdles remain at the administrative level.
  • Government Under Pressure: He alleged that the Congress government is fearful of facing the electorate due to growing public dissatisfaction. “When the Commission is ready, departments are ready, and officers are ready—what is the Sukhu government afraid of?” Chakshu questioned.
  • Hidden Agenda? He accused the government of pursuing a “political bargain” or “hidden agenda” by suspending elections, calling it a direct assault on administrative independence and a dangerous sign for democracy.
  • Public Anger Rising: According to Chakshu, delaying elections will not calm public anger but instead intensify it. He warned that even district officials are now echoing political language under government pressure, which undermines democratic institutions.
  • Change is Inevitable: Concluding his remarks, Chakshu asserted that postponing elections will not prevent Congress’s defeat. “The people have already made up their minds for change. No matter when the date is set, voters are ready to deliver a lesson,” he said.
