A political storm has erupted in Himachal Pradesh after Churah constituency BJP MLA Hans Raj was booked in a case registered under the POCSO Act following allegations by a young woman who has accused him of sexual assault. The complainant claims that the alleged harassment began when she was a minor and continued for several years.

In connection with the same case, the name of another BJP MLA, Vinod Kumar from Nachan constituency, has surfaced after hotel rooms allegedly linked to the incident were reported to be booked under his name. Investigating officers are examining the circumstances under which the rooms were arranged and the potential involvement of additional individuals. No formal case has yet been registered against the second MLA, but the matter is reportedly under active scrutiny.

Accusations and Investigation

According to the complaint, the survivor has alleged that she and her family faced threats and pressure to withdraw the case. The allegations also include intimidation, warnings of harm, and coercion to alter her statement. She reportedly stated that she has been living away from her home due to safety concerns.

Police officials have confirmed that the investigation is continuing and that evidence, including digital and hotel-linked records, is being examined. Interim legal protection has been granted to the accused MLA as the inquiry proceeds.

Political Response and Silence

The development has triggered widespread public discussion, particularly because senior political leaders and party representatives have not issued any statements. Neither resignations have been sought nor any disciplinary action announced by the party against the accused MLAs so far.

Rashtriya Devbhoomi Party Demands Action

In an official statement issued to the media on Thursday, Rumit Singh Thakur, Founder and President of Rashtriya Devbhoomi Party, demanded the immediate resignation of both legislators to ensure a fair and impartial investigation.

Thakur stated:

“One BJP MLA is facing serious allegations of sexual exploitation of a young woman, and another MLA’s name has come up regarding the location where the alleged offence took place. Despite this, senior leaders remain silent.”

Calling for accountability, he said:

“The State BJP President, Leader of Opposition, Assembly Speaker, Chief Minister, and the women and youth wings have taken no position on the matter. The silence from all sides raises serious questions.”

Thakur further demanded that both MLAs step down until the investigation is completed:

“The resignations are essential so that there is no influence or pressure on the probe. The victim deserves justice, and a fair inquiry must be ensured.”
Concerns Over Safety and Law-and-Order

Referring to recent violent incidents in the state, Thakur added that concerns over women’s safety and law-and-order have intensified. He criticized the performance of the elected representatives and said the public would assess their actions in the next election cycle.
