Smart Meters Will Not Generate Excessive Bills; Consumers Should Not Be Misled: Assistant Engineer

Addressing the general public of the Bharmour region, Assistant Engineer of the Electricity Department, Bharmour, Krishna Suryavanshi, clarified that the replacement of old electricity meters with smart meters is currently underway across Himachal Pradesh. This process is being carried out strictly under government directives.

He informed that smart meters have already been installed at all transformers, government offices, institutions, and commercial establishments. However, the department has observed that some domestic consumers are unnecessarily opposing the installation of smart meters due to the misconception that they lead to higher electricity bills.

The Assistant Engineer stated that this belief is factually incorrect, as smart meters record consumption more accurately and transparently. He added that if any consumer has concerns or complaints regarding billing, they may report the matter directly to the department office for resolution.

He further warned that if any consumer obstructs the staff deployed for meter replacement, the department will take appropriate action as per rules for obstructing government work. In such cases, the responsibility will lie entirely with the concerned consumer.
