CHAMBA: The Sach Pass in the higher reaches of Chamba district in Himachal Pradesh has been completely closed for all types of vehicular movement.
With regular deployment of police personnel at both ends of the pass, instructions have been issued not to allow any vehicle to enter the pass so as to avert any kind on untoward incident
Sach Pass is a 4,414-metre-high mountain pass on the Pir Panjal range of the Himalayas. It is 127 km from Chamba district headquarters and connects the Chamba valley with the Pangi valley of Himachal.
When there is snowfall on the Sach Pass, the slipperiness on the road increases considerably. As accidents due to this have already happened, the movement of vehicles on the Sach Pass has been completely banned.
Due to the closure of Sach Pass, the people of Pangi tribal area are going to face the biggest problem because after this route, they will have to travel an additional distance of 400 km to reach their destination.
Sach Pass is the nearest route to reach Pangi. In such a situation, whenever Sach Pass is closed, people of tribal area Pangi now have to reach tribal area Pangi via Jammu and Kashmir. The distance from Chamba to Pangi via Sach Pass is 170 km while the distance from Chamba to Sach Pass via Jammu and Kashmir is 570 km. Now people will have to travel an additional 400 km to reach from Pangi to Chamba or from Chamba to Pangi.
Chamba ADM Amit Mehra has confirmed that Sach Pass had been closed for vehicular movement as a precautionary measure.
