Rajesh Dharmani inaugurates Rotary Club’s Drona-2025 event in Palampur

Palampur: Rajesh Dharmani, Himachal Pradesh’s Minister for Urban Development, Housing, Technical Education and Vocational and Industrial Training, inaugurated the three-day Drona-2025 programme of Rotary International District-3090 in Palampur.


The event, organised by Rotary Club Sirsa, is being held from June 27 to 29 at a private hotel in the town. Minister Dharmani was the chief guest at the installation ceremony of Bhupesh Mehta, who assumed charge as District Governor (2025-26) of Rotary International District 3090. Palampur SDM Netra Meti was present as the special guest.


In his address, Minister Dharmani lauded the Rotary Club’s contributions to society, calling its humanitarian and social service initiatives commendable. “Rotary has made a lasting impact across the world through its dedication to social welfare and service to humanity,” he said. He also extended his best wishes for the club’s upcoming service projects and congratulated Bhupesh Mehta on his new leadership role.


Highlighting Himachal Pradesh’s rich natural heritage, Dharmani spoke about the government’s commitment to strengthening tourism infrastructure. He said that efforts are underway to develop Kangra district as the tourism capital of the state, with key projects such as a large geological park in Bankhandi and the expansion of Kangra Airport.


He also remarked on Palampur’s unique identity as both a land of heroes and a renowned tea city, and acknowledged the Rotary Eye Hospital for its significant contributions to healthcare in the region. The minister also outlined initiatives like the Rajiv Gandhi Van Samriddhi Yojana, which promotes environmental sustainability and community participation through afforestation and employment generation.


The event was attended by several Rotary International members and dignitaries, including Commissioner Ashish Sharma and Forest Officer Sanjeev Sharma. In Rotary District 3090, there are members from Rotary Clubs across Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and the entire North Zone, comprising 140 clubs.
