Dharamshala MLA Sudhir Sharma has strongly condemned the tragic death of a student from Bagni Panchayat, who reportedly went into depression following alleged ragging and harassment at Dharamshala College.
According to allegations, three female students and a professor were involved in assaulting, intimidating, and even indulging in obscene behavior towards the victim. Sharma described the incident as “deeply tragic for Himachal Pradesh and shameful for the state government.”
In a statement issued on Friday, Sharma said he stands firmly with the bereaved family and vowed to ensure justice. He criticized the state government for its failure to prevent such incidents, adding that attempts to suppress the matter will not be spared by law.
Following the family’s complaint, Dharamshala police registered an FIR under BNS Sections 75, 115(2), 3(5), and Section 3 of the Himachal Pradesh Educational Institutions (Prohibition of Ragging) Act, 2009. Sharma expressed shock that despite repeated harassment since September last year, no action was taken earlier.
He further alleged that political protection allowed college staff to shield the accused, calling it a “serious matter that exposes the collapse of law and order.” Sharma warned that if justice is denied, the BJP will take to the streets in protest.
The family had also lodged a complaint on December 20 through the CM Helpline, which was later forwarded to Dharamshala police for investigation.
