The postmortem report of Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited Chief Engineer Vimal Negi, whose body was found in the Gobind Sagar Lake in Bilaspur in Himachal Pradesh, has raised serious questions about the circumstances surrounding his death.
According to the report, Vimal Negi’s death occurred approximately five days before his body was found on March 18, which means he likely passed away on March 12 or 13.
However, he was last seen alive on March 10 in Ghumarwin. The new revelation now poses a critical question: where was Vimal Negi during the two days before his death?
No signs of injury on body
The postmortem report indicates that there were no signs of physical injury, either internally or externally, on Vimal’s body. However, certain reports, including the viscera examination, are still pending.
The exact cause of death will only be determined once these additional reports are available. Despite the lack of injury marks, the timing of his death has sparked suspicions. Authorities are awaiting the final reports before drawing definitive conclusions.
Suspended officer denied interim bail
In connection with the ongoing investigation, suspended Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation director Deshraj, a key figure in the case, was denied interim bail by the Himachal Pradesh High Court.
The high court has directed the police to submit a status report on the matter. Deshraj has argued that the FIR filed against him is incorrect, and he has requested interim bail to avoid arrest.
The next hearing for the case is scheduled for March 24. The court’s decision not to grant bail has added further intrigue to the case.
Family continues to demand CBI probe
The family of the late Vimal Negi has continued to demand a CBI inquiry into the circumstances surrounding his death.
On Saturday, Leader of Opposition and former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur visited Vimal Negi’s ancestral village Katgaon to express his condolences to the family.
During this visit, the family once again reiterated their demand for a CBI investigation and called for swift action against the accused officers.
Jai Ram Thakur, along with state BJP president Dr Rajiv Bindal and other BJP leaders, expressed their support for the family’s demand. Thakur was moved by the grief of Vimal’s mother and wife, describing Vimal as an honest and approachable officer.
SIT investigates digital evidence
The police special investigation team (SIT) has intensified its investigation into the case of Vimal Negi’s alleged suicide incitement.
Led by Shimla SP, the police team is probing the matter thoroughly. The police have sent several digital pieces of evidence, including mobile phones, CCTV footage and computer hard drives, to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for analysis.
The SIT has also requested relevant records from the Power Corporation and is continuing to interrogate employees and officials. Cyber experts are assisting the investigation to analyze the technical aspects of the case more deeply.
