Dharamshala:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday (September 9, 2025) undertook an aerial survey of rain-battered districts in Himachal Pradesh as part of his day-long visit to flood-affected areas in the region.
Flying over Kullu, Mandi and Chamba, the Prime Minister reviewed the widespread destruction caused by heavy rain, landslides and flashfloods that have ravaged large parts of the hill state.
After completing the aerial assessment, the Prime Minister’s helicopter landed at Gaggal Airport in Kangra. From there, he proceeded to Dharamshala, where a crucial disaster review meeting has been scheduled.

Senior officials will brief the Prime Minister through detailed presentations on the extent of damage and ongoing relief measures. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu is expected to join the meeting.
Later in the day, at around 4 pm, the Prime Minister will travel to Punjab’s Gurdaspur, where he will meet families displaced by the recent floods in Tibri village and hear their concerns firsthand.
Meanwhile, the visit has not been without tension. In Mandi, a bomb threat was emailed to the Nerchowk Medical College, prompting an emergency evacuation and a full-scale police search operation. Separately, banned Khalistani outfit Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) attempted to stir unrest by circulating a provocative video blaming the Centre for “weaponising water” to cause floods in Himachal.
Both Himachal Pradesh and Punjab governments have pressed the Centre for special relief packages. While Punjab’s AAP government has sought Rs 20,000 crore in aid, CM Sukhu has urged for an exclusive financial package to rebuild the state’s devastated infrastructure.
Just days earlier, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had toured flood-affected areas of Amritsar, Gurdaspur and Kapurthala, interacting with victims and assessing the ground situation.
As the state awaits a long and challenging road to recovery, the Prime Minister’s visit is being seen as a critical step in expediting relief measures and mobilising central assistance for rebuilding efforts.
