Palampur: With the Himachal Pradesh Congress government likely to fill a vacant ministerial berth ahead of its two-year anniversary celebrations in Bilaspur, the Palampur Congress has rallied behind local MLA Ashish Butail for the position.
Thirteen Congress councillors from the Palampur Municipal Council, including Mayor Gopal Nag, have appealed to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu to induct Butail into the Cabinet. The councillors highlighted Butail’s seniority and his strong electoral record, noting his significant victories in 2017 and 2022, even against strong BJP opposition.
Addressing mediapersons, Mayor Gopal Nag emphasized that Butail was among the senior-most Congress MLAs from Kangra and had previously served as Chief Parliamentary Secretary (CPS) before resigning following a recent High Court verdict.
The councillors, including Anish Nag, Sanjay Rathore, Radha Sood and others, lauded Butail’s contributions to the party and the region, asserting that his inclusion in the Cabinet would strengthen the government’s position in Kangra.
The Cabinet expansion, hinted at by the Chief Minister, has sparked discussions across the state, with Palampur Congress leaders strongly advocating for Butail’s elevation.
