Now, experience Arctic-style living as first commercial igloo opens in Himachal's Lahaul

MANDI: To boost winter tourism, Lahaul-Spiti district in Himachal Pradesh has unveiled its first commercial igloo in Dalang village.

The innovative venture offers visitors a unique opportunity to experience traditional Arctic-style accommodation amidst the majestic Himalayan landscape.

Glimpse into igloo-style living

An igloo, derived from the Inuit word “iglu,” refers to a dome-shaped shelter constructed from blocks of snow. Historically, these structures have been used by indigenous Arctic communities as temporary dwellings during hunting expeditions.

The compact design and insulating properties of snow make igloos remarkably efficient at retaining heat, providing a warm refuge even in sub-zero temperatures.

“Our goal is to offer tourists an authentic igloo stay, complemented by the pristine beauty of Lahaul,” said Rajeev Anand. “The igloo’s interior maintains a comfortable temperature, ensuring guests can relax and enjoy, regardless of the cold outside.”
