Shimla: BJP MLA from Dalhousie, DS Thakur, has strongly criticized the Himachal Pradesh government’s 2025-26 budget, calling it a “mere numbers game” with no real benefits for farmers, horticulturists, women, or any other section of society.
He claimed that the Sukhu-led Congress government itself admits to a financial crisis, making it evident that the budget lacks any concrete relief measures.
Thakur expressed disappointment over the neglect of Dalhousie, a prime tourist destination, in the budget. He stated that no provisions have been made for boosting tourism, improving roads, or strengthening the healthcare infrastructure in the region.
He also raised concerns about the severe shortage of professors in local colleges, forcing students to migrate elsewhere for higher education.
“Under the previous Jairam Thakur-led BJP government, ₹5.5 crore each was sanctioned for college buildings in Bhalei, Telka, and Banikhet. However, the present government has failed to initiate the tender process, leaving these projects in limbo,” he said.
He further pointed out the deteriorating healthcare facilities in Dalhousie, particularly in Salooni subdivision, where the PHC in Kihar and the CHC in Salooni have eight sanctioned Medical Officer (MO) posts each but currently operate with just one doctor.

This crisis compels residents to seek treatment at Tanda Medical College, Pathankot, or private hospitals. Schools in the region are also struggling due to a lack of teachers, he added.
Concerns Over Rising Drug Menace
Apart from budgetary concerns, Thakur also raised the issue of the alarming rise in drug abuse, particularly the use of ‘chitta’ (heroin), in Chamba district. He revealed that at least 10 young lives have already been lost due to drug addiction in his constituency.
“I had questioned the government in the Assembly regarding its measures to curb the rising drug menace. The government must take stringent action against drug peddlers and introduce laws to ensure the strictest possible punishment,” Thakur said.
As the budget session continues, the opposition has intensified its attack on the Congress government, questioning its priorities and demanding immediate corrective measures.
