Responding to the nationwide call by the All India Organisation of Chemists and Druggists, the Medical Chemist Association Bharmaur observed a complete shutdown on Wednesday. All medical stores, several private clinics, and drug vendors in Bharmaur kept their businesses closed to protest against online drug sales and e-pharmacy platforms.
Association officials stated that unchecked online drug sales pose serious risks to public health. They warned of rising concerns over fake prescriptions, misuse of antibiotics, and circulation of counterfeit medicines, which could adversely affect patients.
Members emphasized that local medical stores provide proper consultation and essential guidance to patients, a service that is lost in online transactions where direct interaction between pharmacist and patient is absent. They also highlighted that large e-pharmacy companies threaten the livelihood of small traders.
On this occasion, the Association urged the government to enforce strict regulations on online drug sales and safeguard the interests of small medical businesses. They cautioned that failure to act promptly could lead to future challenges regarding the quality and availability of medicines for the general public.
