After weeks of a persistent dry spell, the higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh have received fresh snowfall, bringing much-needed relief to farmers and orchardists. Witnessing a change in weather, the tourists have already made a bee-line to tourist sposts like Dalhousie, Dharamshala.

In Mandi, the areas such as Shikari Devi, Kamrunag, Prashar Lake, and Kamru Valley were blanketed in snow on Monday, while the lower regions are expected to see rainfall in the coming days. The shift in weather has also intensified the cold wave in the plains, adding to the winter chill.

A Welcome Change for Farmers and Orchardists

The snowfall has sparked hope among farmers and orchardists, particularly those cultivating apples and stone fruits. The fresh snow is expected to act as a boon for their crops, ensuring better yields in the coming season. For the agricultural community, this precipitation marks a turning point after enduring weeks of worry over the dry spell.

Tourist Spots Turn into Winter Wonderlands

The scenic locales of Shikari Devi, Kamrunag, Prashar Lake, and Barot have turned into mesmerizing winter destinations, drawing visitors and pilgrims alike. Devotees at the Kamrunag and Shikari Devi temples are experiencing the snowfall as a divine blessing, while tourists are thrilled by the picturesque landscapes.

Weather Forecast and Alerts

The Meteorological Department has predicted more snowfall in the higher altitudes of Mandi and surrounding districts on December 23, 24, and 27. The department has also issued a cold wave warning, urging residents to prepare for a significant drop in temperatures. Rainfall is likely in the lower areas of the district, further signaling an end to the prolonged dry conditions.

District Administration on High Alert

The Mandi administration has stepped up preparations to address potential disruptions caused by snowfall. Deputy Commissioner Apoorv Devgan has instructed local officials to ensure roads remain operational and essential services are not affected.

In Siraj, the administration has completed all arrangements to mitigate challenges posed by heavy snowfall. Precautionary measures include restricting entry to sensitive areas like Shikari Devi and Kamrunag for tourists and pilgrims.

Residents have been advised to take preventive measures against the cold wave, and in case of emergencies, the District Disaster Management Authority has provided helpline numbers: 1077, 01905-226201, 202, 203, 204.

Cultural and Community Impact

The annual Parate ceremony of Bada Dev Kamrunag concluded recently, with Devi Singh assuming the role of the temple’s chief priest. The snowfall has added a festive charm to these religious and cultural activities, further uplifting the spirits of the community.
