Lahaul-Spiti Deputy Commissioner Rahul Kumar has said that the tribal district was limping back to normalcy after receiving heavy snowfall on December 27 and 28.
Speaking to the media at his office, the IAS officer said the snow was useful for the rejuvenation of water schemes and agriculture. He said it was also beneficial for apple and other trees as the snow would provide fruit orchards the needed chilling hours for trees.
Kumar said the snow had blocked several highways and link roads, and that the main roads had been opened with the help of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO). “The road connecting Keylong with Manali is open. The Kaza-Kinnaur road is also through. The Keylong-Udaipur-Darcha road has also bene opened for 4X4 vehicles,” the Deputy Commissioner said.
Kumar urged locals and other travelling on these roads to use 4X4 vehicles or put chain on their tyres so as to avoid skidding on the slippery roads.
