Chamba: In a stirring affirmation of the media’s role in preserving India’s democratic fabric, Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania lauded The Newz Radar for its commitment to truth and accountability.

Speaking at the Shining Star Awards ceremony organised by The Newz Radar in Chamba, where over 2,000 meritorious students and their parents had gathered, Pathania emphasised the critical responsibility that independent journalism carries in today’s times.

“There are very few media groups left in the country today that are genuinely working to strengthen our democracy. I often tell people that it is only authentic media houses that scrutinize the working of the other three pillars of democracy,” he said. “It is the media alone that has the courage and responsibility to examine the judiciary, the executive, and the legislature.”

Recognising The Newz Radar as one such credible institution, Pathania publicly extended his support to the platform, stating, “I will support The Newz Radar in whichever way I can. Their work is in the national interest, and it deserves encouragement from all quarters.”

The remarks come at a time when the media in India finds itself navigating through increasing pressure and scrutiny. Pathania’s vocal endorsement reaffirmed the constitutional place of the press as the fourth pillar of democracy, acting as a vigilant watchdog of governance and public interest.

The Shining Star Awards, hosted in the historic town of Chamba, celebrated academic excellence among Class 10 and 12 students from across the region. The grand event was not only a celebration of merit but also a platform for meaningful dialogue on issues affecting the youth and education.

As media continues to face both technological disruption and political polarisation, Speaker Pathania’s statements served as a strong reminder that authentic journalism is essential for an informed citizenry and a healthy democracy. His support for The Newz Radar signals encouragement for regional voices that uphold truth, ask hard questions, and give voice to the voiceless.

In a democracy as vibrant and complex as India’s, media is not merely an observer—it is a participant, a challenger, and often, a torchbearer of constitutional values. The message from Chamba was clear: democracy thrives where fearless media survives.
