KANGRA: Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini visited Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh on Friday (February 21, 2025) morning to extend his condolences to the family of former MP and veteran Himachal BJP leader Kishan Kapoor, who passed away earlier this month.
CM Saini arrived at Sai Ground, Dharamshala, around 11.15 am and proceeded directly to the residence of the late leader. He spent nearly half an hour with the bereaved family, offering his sympathies before returning to Chandigarh by helicopter
Official protocols followed for CM’s visit
The Haryana CM’s visit was pre-coordinated with Himachal Pradesh authorities. Official intimation was sent on Thursday to the Himachal Pradesh Chief Secretary, Director General of Police (DGP) and the Kangra Deputy Commissioner, ensuring seamless arrangements for the visit.
Former MP Kishan Kapoor, a towering figure in Himachal Pradesh politics, passed away on February 1 at PGI-Chandigarh after a prolonged illness. He was 74.
Kishan Kapoor: A legacy of decades in public service
A prominent Gaddi leader, Kishan Kapoor had an illustrious political career, serving as an MLA from Dharamshala five times and holding ministerial positions in the state government in 1998, 2008 and 2017.
In 2019, he was elected as the Member of Parliament from the Kangra constituency, further cementing his legacy in Himachal’s political landscape.
Kishan Kapoor is survived by his wife Rekha Kapoor, son Shashwat Kapoor and daughter Pragati Kapoor. CM Saini personally extended his condolences to the grieving family during his visit, reflecting the deep respect Kapoor commanded across state boundaries.
The passing of Kishan Kapoor marks the end of an era for Himachal Pradesh politics, leaving behind a legacy of dedicated public service and unwavering commitment to his constituents.
