Residents of Ichhi village near Gaggal in Kangra district thwarted an attempted jewelry scam, leading to the capture of two suspects.
According to reports, the men were moving door-to-door offering to “clean and polish” gold ornaments, claiming they could restore them to a brand-new shine. However, during the process, they allegedly tried to swap genuine ornaments with fake ones.
Suspicion arose among locals, who quickly confronted the duo and detained them before alerting the police. Officers arrived at the scene and took the suspects into custody for questioning. The investigation is currently underway, with authorities verifying all details of the case.
Following the incident, local administration and community leaders have urged residents to remain vigilant. They advised against trusting strangers with valuable jewelry and recommended using only authorized and reputable jewelry shops for cleaning or polishing services.
Officials further appealed to the public: if any suspicious individuals are seen engaging in similar activities, report them immediately to the nearest police station. Community awareness and prompt action, they emphasized, are key to preventing such frauds.
