Shimla:

A cloudburst struck the Rampur region of Himachal Pradesh’s Shimla district late Wednesday (August 6, 2025) night, triggering flashfloods in the Shandal area.

The Slati Khud stream, swollen by intense overnight rainfall, overflowed and sent waves of panic through nearby residential areas. No loss of life or major damage has been reported so far.

In another alarming development, the rising water level of the Nogli Khud caused flashfloods near the Taklech market. The fast-moving water rushed through low-lying areas, forcing residents to evacuate to safer locations. The heavy downpour eased by midnight, bringing some relief to locals.

Three days of rain continue to trouble Himachal

Shimla and several other districts have been experiencing continuous heavy rain for the past three days, leading to a series of flashfloods and landslides. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for 10 districts of Himachal Pradesh on Thursday, warning of potential landslides, rising water levels in streams and rivers, and road blockages.

Only the tribal districts of Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti have been spared from the current alert. Residents in the rest of the state have been urged to remain cautious and avoid venturing near riverbanks and steep slopes.

According to the latest data from local authorities, 24 roads remain blocked across Shimla district due to landslides and flooding. These include 14 in Rampur division, four in Sunni, three in Theog, two in Chopal and one in Jubbal division.

In a separate incident, a tree fell on the building of the Department of Science and Technology in Shimla, damaging its roof. A landslide was also reported on Idgah Road, though no injuries or fatalities occurred.
