Shimla:

The weather continues to batter Himachal Pradesh, with unrelenting rain and landslides causing destruction across several districts.

On Saturday (September 13, 2025) morning, a cloudburst struck the village of Gutrahan in the Namhol sub-tehsil of Bilaspur district, leading to widespread damage. Several vehicles were buried under debris and fields of local farmers were severely affected, with extensive crop loss reported.

There were no casualties in the incident, though the destruction to property and farmland has left residents distressed. Continuous rainfall over the past two days has also caused a significant rise in the water level of the Seer Khud (rivulet) in Ghumarwin, which is now at its highest point this season.

Landslides hit traffic movement on Bharmour-Pathankot highway

Landslides have severely impacted traffic along the Bharmour-Pathankot highway, with major blockades reported near Tunnuhatti, Lahad and Maihla. The heavy rains triggered landslides late Friday night, leading to long queues of stranded vehicles. Commuters were forced to remain in their cars for hours, waiting for the roads to be cleared.

By Saturday morning, over 577 roads remained blocked across the state, including three national highways. Infrastructure damage has been widespread — 389 electricity transformers are out of service and 333 water supply schemes have been affected.

The road network in several districts has been severely impacted, with 174 roads shut in Kullu, 166 in Mandi, 48 in Shimla, 45 in Kangra, 44 in Chamba and 28 in Sirmaur. The impact has left many remote areas cut off, adding to the challenge for emergency services.

State suffers losses worth Rs 4,465 crore

The Meteorological Department in Shimla has warned of more rain in the coming days, predicting rainfall to continue across many parts of the state until September 19. A yellow alert for heavy rainfall and strong winds has been issued for September 13 and 14.

Since Saturday morning, heavy downpour has been reported in multiple areas even as parts of Shimla experienced sunshine with light cloud cover.

The ongoing monsoon season has taken a devastating toll on Himachal Pradesh. Between June 20 and September 12, the state has suffered losses worth Rs 4,465 crore. A total of 386 people have lost their lives during the period, with 168 deaths attributed to road accidents alone.

Additionally, 451 people have been injured and 41 individuals are still missing. The destruction of homes has been widespread — 538 pucca (permanent) houses and 834 kutcha (temporary) homes have been completely destroyed, while 1,878 pucca and 4,005 kutcha homes have been partially damaged.
