SHIMLA: As Himachal Pradesh continues to grapple with heavy rains, landslides and road blockades, the state police have stepped up relief and rescue efforts while issuing an appeal to citizens and pilgrims caught in the monsoon mayhem.
In a statement, Himachal Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Ashok Tewari urged people to remain calm and not fall prey to panic or misinformation. “In light of the ongoing monsoon-related challenges, including road blockades and landslides, the Himachal Pradesh Police urges everyone to remain calm and vigilant. We understand the difficulties faced by our people and pilgrims, and we are working tirelessly to address the situation,” he said.
The DGP emphasised the importance of relying only on official communication channels. “We request the public not to spread or believe in unverified rumours. Our state police communication system is functioning effectively, ensuring timely updates and information dissemination,” Tewari noted.
To aid communication, especially in remote and affected areas like Bharmour, satellite phones have been made available to help stranded pilgrims contact their families. “We are committed to keeping every citizen connected and informed,” said the IPS officer.
Highlighting the tireless efforts of the police force, Tewari said, “Himachal Pradesh Police personnel and officers are dedicated to saving lives and property. We are working continuously to clear roads and ensure smooth traffic flow wherever possible.”
The police chief also appealed for public cooperation. “We urge everyone to follow the directions of the authorities. Together, we can ensure public safety and tackle these difficult times with unity and strength,” he said.
