Body discovered near home in Baijnath’s Chadhiar area; forensic team inspects spot

KANGRA: A 40-year-old up-pradhan of Chek panchayat in Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra district was found murdered near his house late on Tuesday (October 28, 2025) night, the police said. The victim, identified as Ravi Rana, was reportedly returning home after attending a party in Chadhiar when the incident occurred.
According to the police, Rana’s body was discovered lying by the roadside near his residence. Locals spotted the body and immediately informed the police. Injury marks were found on his body, suggesting a possible attack.
Ravi Rana was unmarried and lived with his elder brother, who too is single. Their parents had passed away earlier. The shocking incident has created panic and grief in the village.
Victim was last seen returning from party
Preliminary investigation revealed that Ravi Rana had attended a social gathering earlier in the evening and left for home around midnight. A villager later noticed a person lying on the road and tried calling Rana’s number, only to hear the phone ringing next to the body. The villager then alerted the panchayat pradhan and local residents, following which police were called to the spot.
Station House Officer (SHO) Yadesh Thakur and his team reached the scene and sent the body to Dr Rajendra Prasad Medical College, Tanda, for post-mortem examination.
Police question locals; m*urder suspected
Kangra Superintendent of Police (SP) along with a DSP and a forensic team inspected the crime scene. The police have questioned four to five villagers in connection with the case.
Initial findings indicate that Ravi Rana may have been killed elsewhere and his body dumped near his house. The motive behind the murder is yet to be established. The police said an FIR had been registered and further investigation was underway.
