Shimla:
Political temperatures in Himachal Pradesh has soared after BJP MLA from Dharamshala, Sudhir Sharma, took a personal dig at Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, calling him a “cartoon.” The remark triggered a sharp backlash from the ruling Congress leaders, with Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh and the Chief Minister’s media adviser Naresh Chauhan slamming the BJP legislator for indulging in “personal attacks.”

CM’s photo labelled ‘cartoon sketch’

Sudhir Sharma had recently shared a photo of Chief Minister Sukhu on social media, captioning it as “For the first time in the state’s history — a cartoon sketch.” His post quickly drew criticism from Congress leaders and sparked a war of words online, with several users trolling the BJP MLA as well for his remark while some backing him.

Criticism is fine, but not personal attacks: Vikramaditya

Reacting to the controversy, PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh said political debate between the ruling and opposition parties should be healthy and issue-based.

“Dialogue and criticism are part of democracy and the government should always be ready to respond to them. But personal attacks serve no purpose and must be avoided,” Singh said.

Indirect jibe at Kangana Ranaut

Without naming Mandi MP Kangana Ranaut, Vikramaditya Singh also took a veiled swipe at her, saying, “Some leaders in the state are completely unrestrained. One ‘mohatarma’ often says anything she wants. This is Devbhoomi — our culture does not allow such behaviour. Personal attacks do not benefit anyone.”
Responding to the opposition’s allegations of delay in Panchayati Raj elections, Singh clarified that the polls would be held as per schedule.

“The government has taken cognisance of requests from district administrations. Panchayat elections in Himachal will be conducted on time,” he asserted.
